I am an Independent Social Worker and Social Work Consultant with over 20 years experience of direct practice and management / leadership; primarily in local authority child protection work. I have worked in various teams - assessment, care planning and court work included - and dealt with a wide range of risk issues for children. I have well developed social work skills including assessment of risk, of need, of parents and family members, care planning, supervisory and report writing skills. I have a particular interest in the impact of trauma on parenting capacity and strive to ensure that individual risks and strengths are understood and proportionately balanced. 

In my strategic roles I have led on quality assurance activity for a Safeguarding Children Board and a Family Justice Board and have completed a safeguarding audit in a secondary school. I have trained designated safeguarding leads on thresholds and assessment of risk and supported agencies to update their policies and procedures in line with legislation.

Using a collaborative approach with an emphasis on building on existing strengths, I work flexibly and efficiently and provide regular feedback throughout the period of the assignment.
